Organic Produce

While there seems to be lots of debate surrounding the advantages of organic food, I am trying to strike a balance and consider going organic for some of my family’s food.  I think that it makes sense to consider organic for those fruit and vegetables that typically have higher pesticide levels than others.  I recently received a list from a naturopathic doctor that provides some guidelines on organic fruit and vegetables:

Fruits and Vegetables with Higher Pesticide Levels (consider buying organic):

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Nectarines
  • Pears
  • Cherries
  • Red Raspberries
  • Imported Grapes
  • Spinach
  • Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Potatoes
  • Hot Peppers

Fruits and Vegetables with Lower Pesticide Levels:

  • Pineapples
  • Plantains
  • Mangoes
  • Bananas
  • Watermelon
  • Plums
  • Kiwi
  • Blueberries
  • Papaya
  • Grapefruit
  • Avocado
  • Cauliflower
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Asparagus
  • Radishes
  • Broccoli
  • Onions
  • Okra
  • Cabbage
  • Eggplant
