I am always hesitant to purchase a gluten free mix to make pizza or cookies. I have had some issues in the past with mixes and usually prefer to make breads and baked goods using my own recipes. However, there are so many great new products coming on the market that taste like homemade and are a lot less time-consuming. I recently purchased a pizza crust mix by Namaste Foods (click here for website) at a local health food store. Each bag makes two 14″ crusts and all you need to add to the mix is water and little bit of oil. The mix is made in a dedicated facility free of gluten, wheat, soy, corn, potato, peanuts, treen nuts, dairy and casein. In addition, it is sugar free.
I would make a few changes to the directions, including:
- Place a piece of parchment paper or a non-stick liner underneath the dough or it will stick to the pan (even when you grease it).
- You may need to bake the pizza a bit longer than recommended, as I found the centre of the pizza crust to be a bit underdone
Also, be aware that you will not be able to roll this dough out once it has been mixed. Instead, you must pour the dough from the bowl, straight onto the pizza pan. You might not think it will make a crust, but trust me…it will!
I brushed the crust with olive oil and topped it with tomato sauce, some crumbled spicy chorizo, goat cheese, mushrooms and fresh basil. But you can add whatever ingredients you want.
